Giving your party a fun theme can really get everybody in a party mood right from the start. You can invite your guests to come in fancy dress, and providing special drinks and appropriate decorations can all help to give the party it’s special atmosphere.
Need an excuse for a party? Here are some details and ideas for occasions:
We are often asked to be the host for Bingo and Quiz nights but having a theme for your party is the simplest way to create instant atmosphere. Whether your intended effect is corny, gimicky, sassy or classy, selecting a theme will give you the opportunity to build a party instead of just throwing one. Our DJ Presenter will join the fun by dressing appropriately and he may also have some good ideas for games and prizes too.
With a little thought, planning and creativity, you can transform even the dullest group of guests into a fun loving crowd of revellers who will be ready to let their hair down at any event you wish to celebrate. A visit to your local party store or fancy dress outfitters will provide you with some ideas of what is available in the way of decorations and props. Although it’s worth telling your guests that the ‘Best dressed’ contests are not always won by the person who has spent the most on dress hire.
There is normally an activity or form of amusement involved central to the party’s purpose, and this is where our Karaoke usually becomes the most popular form of entertainment because it lets everyone become a star! Karaoke was originated in Japan and now, as it has spread throughout the world, millions of people are singing along to the soundtracks of their favourite singer’s recordings. We can usually find something to play for everybody from the vast selection of songs in our music library which is growing every week. If we receive a request that we don’t have, we will try to obtain it ready for the next time we are asked.
Here’s a few ideas to get you started thinking about your very own theme:

The most important day of your life should be catered for by experienced and understanding people. Mister Musicman Entertainments can help to make one of the most stressful times you are ever likely to have more bearable by organising all the musical entertainment for you.
At first it would appear that you are only paying for a few hours of performance time, but we can invest between 12 and even up to 30 hours in your special event to create our full service package. Indivual consultations, setting-up and taking down the equipment, music editing and preparation will all add up to the overall success of your special day.
The cake is traditionally cut after speeches and toasts, and would normally conclude the formal part of the reception. The bride and groom's first dance as husband and wife (to their favourite tune) usually starts the informal party, this is usually a kind of "spotlght dance" for the couple alone.
The DJ will know just what music to play to get everyone else up on the dance floor after that but there may be other dances to follow, such as Father/Daughter dance, and Mother/Son dances. All these songs are typically slow songs which have been carefully chosen beforehand. Also, it's helpful to let us know if any other special celebrations are occurring so that we have plenty of time to select the right music.
Imagine this scenario: As you are out shopping for the perfect diamond for your partner when a street vendor complete with his quick-getaway briefcase gives you a nudge and says "Pssst! hey you two, I hear you are looking for some good rocks. I’ve got some great stones going really cheap, I’ll even throw in the ring for free!"
Sound dodgy? of course he is - but you would be surprised how many times we have heard of a Bride and Groom who have chosen the cheapest Disco they could find. They end up with the type who lugs his unchecked equipment into the venue just fifteen minutes before the party starts. Usually a couple of small speakers and some cheesy circa - 1970’s light screens and playing songs like ‘The birdy Song’ all night long. They hire these fly-by-nights because they are cheaper, or because "he’s a friend of my brother", or he does Thursdays down at the local Pub.
Most couples handle every other major item in their budget differently to that of selecting a Disco. They don’t choose one venue over another because it costs less, or buy the cake from the supermarket rather than go to the designer bakery. Instead, they investigate the venue, sometimes taking photo’s to see how it would look on the day and even taste-test the buffet fillings and hors d’oeuvres beforehand. Eventually, they settle on the vendor who seems to be capable of delivering the best experience for their guests.
The problem is that very few people feel comfortable evaluating DJs in the same way. We know that a good one can "get the party started" but we are unsure of how to tell a good one from a bad one. Some people think so poorly of DJs, that they prefer to eliminate them entirely by playing music from their iPods or laptops through a rented sound system they don’t know how to use. The inevitable three second delay between songs you get on an iPod, and distortion blasting out through speakers to give the guests a headache are just some of the problems they have. An iPod might well be better than a bad DJ, but the DJ is a key part of your reception, and some of us are very good indeed.
Perhaps it’s hard for a Bride and Groom to grasp the difference between an inexperienced DJ with inferior entry-level equipment, who may be nothing more than a glorified CD changer, and a seasoned one with top of the range professional gear, who also knows how to ‘read’ the audience in order to transform shy and retiring Clark Kents into dancefloor superheros. We at Mister Musicman Entertainments, have developed our skills through previously performing at many weddings and have a full understanding of standard reception rituals, like the aformentioned cake cutting or the father/daughter dance before getting everyone else up on their feet.
Don’t bother with DJs who are still learning the ropes and cutting corners by not having the necessary credentials, they will only use your wedding for practice. Instead, look for a business like ours who have invested in good reliable equipment and show their committment to the profession by belonging to DJ associations such as the NADJ and the MDA. You should also insist that they have public liability insurance (in case Grandma trips over a speaker wire), and PAT electrical test certificates to ensure their equipment is safe.
Any DJ who is reluctant to give his address and landline phone number is likely to be pocketing your money without declaring to the Inland Revenue. These dodgy operators are easy to spot because they never include these details in their advertising, preferring instead to just use a mobile phone number for contact.
It’s the same with the cake, and with the right venue, and it matters just a much for your DJ. The thing you are searching for is quality, not price. When you look back on your wedding reception in years to come, do you want to remember what a fantastic time everyone had? Or do you want to say - "Well at least we saved some money on the DJ?"
