Children love the amazing magic shows, puppets, story-telling/singing, face-painting etc. but we have found from experience that party games, music/dancing, prizes and balloons will always win the day.

Why not try Karaoke which children of any age can enjoy. Children under 5 years expect lots of familiar nursery rhymes to sing along to, and the older ones sometimes need to be restrained from getting up to sing using the mike. Karaoke is fun, confidence building and everyone can join in! At a Kids Karaoke party, everything is taken care of, you just show up ready to party. It's great because it means that mum and dad can enjoy the day with their friends too! We have a wide range of music for all ages, and don't worry if they are not able to read the lyrics yet, we get them to sing their favourite nursery rhymes to some great backing tracks, plus keep them moving with fun party games including dancing competitions with lots of prizes.

For Children age 3-7 we would recommend a minimum of 2 hours, we have lots of activities and the time just flies. We don't expect the kids to sing for the entire 2 hours but children are very unpredictable. Every child is different that's why we like to mix our parties with fun games. As for the older ones, especially the girls of around 7, we find that they just want to be dressed up and become pop stars for the day.

When working with children there are a couple of rules we always insist on, both for our own protection and for your reassurance. The first is that our DJ must never be left in the room on his own with the children. We absolutely insist on there always being another responsible adult person present. The second rule we have is that we never allow our DJs to actually touch any child. The official guidance is that you shouldn't touch children below the shoulders, but we try to avoid thouching at all to be on the safe side.

A CRB certificate is NOT needed if you are not in complete charge of children, and Mister Musicman Entertainments do not provide entertainment for a party where the DJ has to be in sole charge of children.

We have noticed that some Disco companies are wrongly declaring that a CRB check is absolutely necessary and they are only doing this to gain extra business by putting fear into the minds of parents. The following explanation should make it clear for people who may be overly concerned about those who have not been CRB checked:

There are two types of CRB - Disclosure and Enhanced Disclosure, but if a person is not required to be in sole charge of the children, neither type is required. You cannot apply for an Enhanced CRB yourself if you are a self employed DJ. it has to be requested by another party eg. School, Youth Clubs, Scouts, Guides etc. and they have to cover the cost themselves.

When you are CRB checked, there is a process where your identity is checked but there is no guarantee that the organisation who did the check had done it properly. You also have to be re-CRB checked for each company you work for, as a CRB check obtained from one organisation may not be valid for another. There are certain things that are not declared on the certificate such as pending investigations, these are sent by separate letter to the organisation doing the check and will not be disclosed to any third party. So unless someone does the check themselves, they would not know about it!

The certificate is a bit like an MOT and is only really valid on the day it is issued. Most Schools and LEAs have their own rules on this matter but generally, sub contractors are allowed to work in the presence of children at the discretion of the establishment without disclosure as long as they are supervised at all times by someone who has.
